About writing in Australia: Scripts for Film, Television and Theatre

The Australian Writers’ Guild has an excellent script assessment service for film, television and theatre scripts.

Australians who have a screenplay idea, treatment or first draft that they want to sell should contact their local State Government film funding body (e.g. Film Victoria) regarding assistance provided to new script writers. Staff at these offices often have an idea about what local producers are looking for.

Regarding proposals for television or film producers, it is worthwhile to peruse the Encore Directory which lists producers and other professionals in the industry with contact details and information about credits. See your local library or Writers’ Centre or subscribe to Encore yourself (see here to subscribe: http://www.encoredirectory.com.au/login.aspx).

Writing for the theatre is most often a collaborative process. It is important to develop links with local theatre companies to find out about their pathways for the development of new writers and projects.
