Poetry-Short Stories

About writing in Australia: Poetry

If you are unable to secure the interest of another literary agent, please consider sending your poetry to literary journals and poetry competitions. Join your local Writers’ Centre and they will have information about these, as could the librarian at your Municipal Library. Addresses and submission guidelines appear in each edition of the magazine or journal. Once you have had some work published and/or have done well in competitions, you could approach publishers yourself. See in your local bookshop who is publishing new poets. Two prizes worth cosidering are the Australian Book Review's Peter Porter Prize for all poets and the Overland Judith Wright Poetry Prize for emerging poets who have had not more than one book of poetry published.
