Mokie and Bik - cover

Wendy Orr has had a busy year, with the release of Across the Dark Sea, in May; Too Much Stuff, a Penguin Nibble, in July and Mokie and Bik by Allen & Unwin in September. The West Australian launch of Mokie and Bik, held during the Sprung Literary Festival in Albany, was filmed for ABC TV's "Can We Help?" and should be screened on Dec 8 at 6:30pm. See your program guides for details. Mokie and Bik are delightful twins who live on a boat with Laddie the dog, Slow the sleepy tortle, and Ruby who sings all day. Dad is on his ship-at-sea, Mum is busy arting, so, underfoot or overbaord, the twins have twice as much fun as anyone else. Mokie and Bik will be published in the USA by Henry Holt in the northern Spring of 2007.

Jack Brown and the Trail of the Pythons, the second novel in the Jack Brown Series by Greg Pyers’, is now available in all good book stores. The first in the series, Jack Brown and the Labyrinth of the Bats, was published by ABC Books in April 2006 and is also available in a 3 CD set narrated by Brendan Higgins who brilliantly captures the mood of intrigue and suspense. See the great reviews of both books in the November edition of Magpies and the December edition of the Friends of the Melbourne Zoos (FOTZ) News. Also good reviews for Jack Brown and the Trail of the Pythons appeared recently in the Ballarat Courier and the Aussiereviews web site. Greg was short listed in the 2005 Australian Children’s Book Council Awards non fiction category and his first novel, Doublecross, was published by ABC books in August 2005.

Fans of Nanushka who are looking for her books should tell their book seller to order LOVE Nanushka and PEACE & FRIENDSHIP Nanushka published by Jane Curry Publishing (distributed by Macmillan). There has been some confusion as Nanushka's earlier editions are out of print and some book sellers don't realise that LOVE Nanushka and PEACE & FRIENDSHIP Nanushka contain poems from the earlier Nanushka Volumes. The new editions are beautifully designed gift books - ideal for Christmas and other special occasions.
