A special launch of Wendy Orr's Across the Dark Sea will take place at Springvale Library, Friday 27 October at 1:30. Judy Gauld, publisher from the National Museum, Canberra, will be there with the original art work by Donna Rawlins. There will also be a talk from a Vietnamese speaker about his own experiences, and a photographic exhibition about the Vietnamese boat people. Wendy is having a busy year, with the release of Across the Dark Sea, in May; Too Much Stuff, a Penguin Nibble, in July and Mokie and Bik by Allen & Unwin in September. There will be a Mokie and Bik 'pre-launch' session, mostly for schools, at Hastings Library, 7 High St Hastings, at 11:00am Tuesday October 17. Families are welcome to come to the Mornington Library launch of Mokie and Bik: Vancouver St Mornington, at 11:00am, Saturday 21st October. Bookings are essential: Tel. 5950 1820. Come dressed up as twins or as something to do with the sea! Farrells Books will be in attendance. Wendy spoke from 15-18 September, at the Sprung Literary Festival in Albany WA (see www.albanytourist.com.au for details) where she launched Mokie and Bik in Western Australia. This Launch was filmed for the ABC's "Can We Help?" and should be screened on Dec 8 at 6:30pm. These delightful twins live on a boat with Laddie the dog, Slow the sleepy tortle, and Ruby who sings all day. Dad is on his ship-at-sea, Mum is busy arting, so, underfoot or overbaord, the twins have twice as much fun as anyone else. Mokie and Bik will be published in the USA by Henry Holt in the northern Spring of 2007.
Jack Brown and the Trail of the Pythons, the second novel in the Jack Brown Series by Greg Pyers’, is now available in all good book stores. The first in the series, Jack Brown and the Labyrinth of the Bats, was published by ABC Books in April 2006 and is also available in a 3 CD set narrated by Brendan Higgins who brilliantly captures the mood of intrigue and suspense. Greg was interviewed in The Jersey Evening Post (2 September 2006) and in The Bendigo Advertiser (16 September 2006). Reviews have appeared in the Ballarat Courier (21 September 2006) and the Border Mail (18 July 2006). The West Australian said the audio book is "riveting" (25 July 2006). Jack Brown has a special gift, the ability to see inside the minds of animals. Jack and his cousin Molly Hunter are never far from danger, whether from poachers in the African jungle, smugglers of Nazi gold in the Channel Islands or an evil man, who has sworn to track Jack down, no matter what! Greg was short listed in the 2005 Australian Children’s Book Council Awards non fiction category and his first novel, Doublecross, was published by ABC books in August 2005.
