Marg Vandeleur
Author
Marg Vandeleur grew up in Brisbane and lives in Melbourne. She has worked as a festival director, advisor to Melbournes Olympic Bid, executive officer of a progressive philanthropic foundation and campaign manager. Her poetry and short fiction have been published in anthologies and literary magazines.
The Catch, published by Penguin, is her first novel and was published in March 2005. Theatrical agent Letty Summers wants a baby. The catch? Her partner has dumped her, the singles scene is leaving her cold and at thirty-five, time is running out. Heart warming and hilarious, this story takes us into an upside-down world where lesbians know the most men, comedians cant laugh and a man with hobbies is exotic.
Reviews appeared in mainstream media such as The Sunday Age; and also in more academic publications, such as The Australian Women's Book Review with the review essay, Rethinking the family: Change, Continuity and 'Choice', by Jane Maree Maher. The Australian Women's Weekly said, "There's nothing that theatrical agent Letty Summers likes better than the idea of having a baby, but time is fast running out. She hates the singles scene and finding a sperm donor isn't easy. Warm, funny and spirited, this is one of the best Australian debut novels in a long while."
