Penelope Trevor
Author, Scriptwriter, Actor, Visual Artist
Penelope lives with her three sons in Melbourne.
Her first novel, Listening for Small Sounds, was short listed for the Vogel Literary Award in 1995 and published by Allen & Unwin in 1996. In 1997 it won the Dobbie Award for the first published work by a woman writer. It was also shortlisted for the Benalla Award for best Audio Book. During 1998, Penelope acted in the popular theatre production of Mums the Word in Melbourne and also toured to Perth. Her second novel, Another Mans Office, was published by Allen & Unwin in July 2000. Tim Rhyder is kidnapped from the back of a jeep in northern Thailand. As a political prisoner held hostage in the Burmese jungle, Tim is forced for the first time to look honestly at his life: his estrangement from his family, his absences from his son, his soured beliefs, and more particularly his perceptions of what it is to be a man.
In 2000, Penelope wrote for the childrens television series Lil Monsters. She also wrote several episodes and worked with the ACTF on the plotting and script development of Lil Elvis Jones and the Truck Stoppers. In 1995 and 1996 she wrote three episodes of Bush Patrol. She has a long history of work in the film and television industry as an actor, with credits including The Sullivans, All the Green Year, Prisoner, and Janus. Penelope has also worked as an editorial assistant for The Melbourne Weekly magazine.
