Best selling author Allan Nixon, the "Uteman", has toured throughout Australia writing stories about the interesting people and places he visits. Riverfolk: Life Along the Murray (2009) is his latest Penguin book. Every politician in the country has a view on how to fix the Murray, but Allan has sought out those who know it best - those who live and work beside it. Riverfolk is an uplifting tribute to an Australian icon.

Outbackers, a book about travelling the outback with Allan, was Published by ABC Books in March 2008.

Allan has travelled the country collecting exciting material for his many books including: the Beaut Utes books (Beaut Utes 4 published by Penguin in 2002 is still available at all good book shops); Jokes for Blokes (Macmillan, 2000) and Real Men Talking/Joking a joke book rated ‘M, for Real Men’ (Lothian, 1999). He has also produced a calendar, a music CD and worked as a consultant on numerous film-making projects.

Allan has undertaken many professions in his time, including working as a customs clerk, air traffic officer, solicitor’s clerk, gardener, barman, nurseryman, storeman, plumber’s labourer, charter pilot, shearer’s cook, roustabout and park ranger. His experiences have helped Allan to understand the trial and daily struggle of ‘the ordinary bloke’ and are invaluable as reference material for his favoured profession – story telling.

Allan’s ‘Working for the Bush’ campaign raises awareness for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the youth suicide prevention program – REACHOUT.
