Helen Lunn

Helen works around Australia as a writer, director and performer. Prior to going freelance in 1995, Helen was Co-Artistic Director of Polyglot Theatre in Melbourne, where she wrote nine plays for the company, including Tadpole, Oddsocks and Snores (which was nominated for an AWGIE – Australian Writers’ Guild Awards – in 1996), Little Moments and Digger’s Mate. Helen has also written for Patch Theatre in Adelaide and Company Skylark in Canberra. Digger’s Mate was published as a Picture Book (Silver Gum Press) and illustrated by the acclaimed Australian Artist, Clifton Pugh.

Over the Hill and Around the Bend with Granny and Bert (and Me) - cover

Helen wrote three children’s Picture Books for the Royal Children’s Hospital Safety Centre in Melbourne. The books were published by Scholastic and the stories were based on the prize winners in a competition sponsored by Esso Australia. The first, Over the Hill and Around the Bend with Granny and Bert (and Me), superbly illustrated by David Miller, was released in June 2000. This humorous story illustrates how easy it is to be safe in the bush and what fun and how adventurous grandmothers can be. The second, Beach Treasures, illustrated by Maybron, was published in October 2000. This is a gentle, whimsical look at siblings playing at the beach. Waiting for Mum, illustrated by Anna Pignataro, was published in 2002. “When the bell rings and all the other children go home, what do you do when Mum doesn’t arrive to pick you up? Firstly, don’t panic when all the worries start to come. With a little bit of a talking to, they’ll soon know who’s the boss...”
